What a referral code is
Every Tesla owner has a personal referral link, and most share a shortened ts.la version that carries their code. Historically the code was a marketing tool for car sales: use a friend's link, buy a car, and both sides got something out of it.
That changed on 29 October 2026. Tesla rebuilt the program around FSD subscriptions, and a vehicle purchase stopped qualifying for any referral reward at all. So the modern use of a referral code is narrow, specific and much easier to complete: subscribe to FSD, get a month free.
What the code is worth in 2026
| Referred subscriber | Owner sharing the code | |
|---|---|---|
| What you get | First month of FSD credited | One free month of FSD per referral, or a $99 credit once the subscriber starts paying |
| Requirement | Start a new FSD subscription with the code | Code used on a qualifying subscription |
| Limit | One per new subscription | 12 uses per calendar year, resetting 1 January |
| Vehicle purchase | No reward | No reward |
The practical read is simple: the value to you is one month of FSD, which at current pricing is about $99. The value to the owner is the same again, which is why referral codes are offered openly rather than hoarded. Nobody is doing you a favour by giving you a code, and you are not doing one by using it — both sides get a month.
How to use a referral code
- Open the code first Follow the referral link or scan the QR code before you start the subscription, so the visit carries the code.
- Start the FSD subscription In the Tesla app under Upgrades, or in your Tesla account on the web, choose FSD (Supervised) and the monthly plan.
- Confirm the code is attached The confirmation step should show the referral. If it does not, back out and open the referral link again before subscribing.
- Check the first month is credited The first billing entry should reflect the credit, or the renewal date should be a month out.
Two minutes of care here is worth $99. The single most common way people lose the month is subscribing first and looking for a place to enter a code second, because there usually is not one.
The code on this page
The card below carries the referral code and a QR code that opens this page on a phone. Scanning it is the intended path for anyone reading this on a desktop: the code is short enough to type, but the link is what carries the attribution that makes the credit land.
Use the claim button rather than copying a URL into a new tab where possible — it keeps the referral parameters intact, and it is one tap on mobile.
Get the first month free
Scan the code with your phone, or open the referral and subscribe to FSD in the same session. The code is
michael496060.
The mistakes that quieten the credit
- Subscribing before opening the referral. The code attaches to the purchase event; there is normally no field to add it afterwards.
- Already having an active subscription. The referral applies when a new subscription starts, not to an existing one.
- Using a different Tesla account. The code and the subscription must belong to the same account.
- Hitting the 12-use cap. A popular code can be exhausted for the calendar year, which is worth checking before you start.
- Assuming it applies to a car purchase. It no longer does — the program is about FSD subscriptions now.
- Expecting it in a market where the program is not running. The current program is US-focused, and other regions run their own terms.
If the month does not appear and none of those apply, contact Tesla support with the subscription date and the code. This page cannot adjust a credit.
Where to find your own code
Owners who want to refer others can find their link in the Tesla app under Refer and Earn. It is worth knowing what the program actually pays before you start posting it into group chats: the current reward is FSD time, not store credit, and each code is capped at twelve uses a year.
The referral program guide covers the rules, the history and the caps in more detail.
Who runs this page
This is an independent page operated by a Tesla owner. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Tesla, Inc. The referral link points at Tesla's own site, nothing is charged here, and Tesla decides whether a subscription qualifies for the credit.
I do receive a referral benefit if you subscribe with the code — that is the reason it is on the page, and the reason it is free for you to use. The full disclosure is in the terms.
Questions people actually ask
Where do I enter a Tesla referral code?
You do not type it into a checkout field. You open the referral link first, then start the FSD subscription in the same session, so Tesla associates the code with that purchase. Opening the link after subscribing generally does not work.
Does a Tesla referral code work on a used Tesla?
It can, but the reward is for a new FSD subscription rather than the car, so what matters is that the used car has the FSD computer and that you are starting a subscription on your own account. A used car with FSD already purchased outright needs no subscription at all.
Can I combine a referral code with other Tesla offers?
Sometimes a referral can run alongside a separate promotion, but the referral itself is administered under Tesla's program terms and Tesla decides what stacks. Check the terms shown at purchase rather than assuming.
Does the referral code expire?
Tesla can change or end the referral program at any time, and each code is capped at 12 uses per calendar year. Treat any individual code as usable only while the program is live.
